Lucid Ink is a discipline that has a number of variations within the Cloisters. Even with that caveat, Serif displays it in a peculiar form. Her abilities manifest as a second skin that coats her entire body and responds to her thoughts. Including her private ones. She’s known to sport looks that run the gamut from outlandish to stylish, all purely made out of liquid. But her suit has shown the habit of occasionally revealing whatever emotions might be running through her mind at the time. On the low end it could be some prickly thorns. Or a gaping mouth filled with more teeth than anyone has the time or inclination to count.

Serif’s skill has come from diligence and work ethic. At least that’s what it seems like to her and the others in the Cloisters. They see someone who has put in work, learning from some of the best combat minds in the Cloisters, Kyren and Lug. But the Dreamverse isn’t a place that responds to some predetermined set of hours to unlock skill. The old adage of mastering a skill requiring X amount of hours is moot in a place where Time is as malleable as any other element of reality. No, the Dreamverse rewards one element consistently when it comes to shaping the ‘scapes within it. Will. Strength of will. Whether Serif realizes or not, her skills aren’t from consistent practice time.

So where is she drawing her will from? That’s harder to say. It could be a result of another old adage. “Fake it, until you make it.” That line of logic can actually be extremely fruitful in the Dreamverse. Whole kingdoms and lines of history have been formed on nothing more than someone cosplaying as something they wanted to be, and either becoming good enough to be indistinguishable, or no one having the sanity to call them out on it because they’re too busy living their own lie. So that’s possible.

Another possibility is that it isn’t her Will at all. Or not just hers. The Dreamverse is a strange place, and interacting with certain parts of it will and can change you. That’s the whole reason Esquires wear protective armor when diving into Somnus. Because otherwise they could become “caught up” in whatever reality they’re passing through. Or used as a conduit by things within it.
