There isn't much known about the being behind the formation of the Esquires. What si known is that he's old, which is one of those panifully obvious facts that feels like something when you know nothing about someone. He has had a host of names. Some of them were either prefaced or followed by colorful four letter words.

The reasons behind him forming the Esquires and founding the Cloisters seems primarily to protect the Oneiro, the , or at least a, keystone for the Dreamverse. And that is enough for most recruits. He's generally seen as the quiet, reclusive, abbot of the Citadel. Which makes sense since that is how most people picture an old abbot to be.

Viejo is the entity that seeks out and finds the new incarnation of the Oneiro, once the prior embodiment has performed their task and moved on. It is a task he has filled for eve, seemingly, and one that he will fill forever. Until he doesn't. Forever is a very long time afterall. Viejo arrives and does his best to on board these new Oneiro's, though admittedly he doesn't know what is in store for them. He tells them their task and then sets them out to fidn their own path to whereever they must go.

Not everyone sees Viejo as reclusive, or anything that would approach an abbot. Many see him as always having plans for others, whether they want to be a part of those plans or not. But that's the nature of reality. There's always another perspective to the same thing. On this level of reality, things tend =to be multi-faceted, which means more angles to view them. That idea only increases in complexity the higher up the levels of reality you go.
